Directorate of Aviation, Government of Madhya Pradesh

The Directorate of Aviation, Government of Madhya Pradesh, is as old as the State itself. When the capital of the newly formed State shifted from Nagpur to Bhopal on 1 November 1956, the aircraft fleet of the erstwhile Central Provinces and Berar (CP & Berar) was transferred to Madhya Pradesh, marking the beginning of the State's aviation journey.

Over the decades, the Directorate has continuously evolved in step with advancements in the aviation sector. From operating pre-World War II vintage aircraft inherited at the time of the State's formation, it has transformed into a modern aviation organization committed to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. In keeping with technological progress and safety considerations, the Government has adopted a policy of operating modern multi-engine aircraft for its aviation requirements.

The primary responsibility of the Directorate is to provide safe, efficient, and dependable air transportation for VVIPs and VIPs of the State and Central Governments, including the Hon'ble Governor, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries. In addition to its flight operations, the Directorate plays a significant role in enhancing inter-state and intra-state air connectivity and promoting aviation development across Madhya Pradesh.

The Directorate is also entrusted with the maintenance, development, and modernization of State-owned airstrips and aviation infrastructure. These facilities contribute to the growth of aviation in the State by supporting flying training, pilot education, aircraft maintenance training, and other aviation-related activities. Several State-owned airfields have been leased to Flying Training Organizations and aviation institutions to encourage skill development and strengthen the aviation ecosystem.

With the induction of modern aircraft and advanced aviation technologies, the Directorate's flying operations have expanded significantly, enabling safe and reliable operations in diverse weather conditions during both day and night. At present, the Government of Madhya Pradesh operates a State aviation fleet comprising a helicopter dedicated to official duties and public service missions.
